"The human foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art."
~Leonardo da Vinci
Just about every movement that we make involves the feet. Strong and mobile feet allow us to move effectively and efficiently, to adjust to various terrain and conditions, to maintain balance and to reduce the risk of falls or injury.
The feet are our foundation providing structural organization to the entire body. If the feet are not mobile and strong, the effects are transmitted throughout the entire system.
When the foot structure is "off" it can cause muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves to have poor function.
The feet are our natural shock absorbers. With every step we take, every time the feet touch the floor or ground, a ripple is created that influences the legs, knees, hips, spine, neck, and core.
Another important aspect of the feet are the "balance nerves", the mechanoreceptors. These nerves are responsible for balance. They send signals to the brain about how the feet are working, what the ground surface is like and where we are in space. Stiff feet and ankles cut off the necessary feedback from the feet to the brain and compromises our balance putting us at a greater risk of falling.
To ensure that our feet have optimal circulation and nerve function, we must maintain the mobility of our toes and ankles.
Dysfunction leads to more dysfunction!
Working with the FEET unleashes a tremendous amount of health and mobility across the body and the whole system. Our practice aims to re-align our feet with NATURE.
On June 28th, join me for the Foot and Hand Therapeutics Workshop, From the Ground Up. We'll begin with the feet and move on to the hands to create space and mobility from the ground up. This remarkable practice is a deep dive into the extremities to ease pain and tension not only in the feet and hands but throughout the body. No experience necessary, open to all.
