Hand grip strength is a key indicator of overall health and fitness. Research has shown that grip strength is correlated with overall muscle strength, bone density, and even lifespan.

Our Kaiut Yoga Method practice is meant to address the body systemically by working with the three girdles (Shoulder, Hip, Plantar/Ankle) in each of our practices.

One of the ways that we access the shoulder girdle is with strapwork. Often when we see the strap, we think leg or hip work and while that is true, we are in fact working on rescuing or retaining our grip strength.

We work with the strap in a variety of ways to build/rebuild mobility, strength and stability throughout the shoulder girdle but also to connect and integrate the hip girdle and the ankle/plantar girdle.

At first, students often groan (perhaps even curse) when doing strapwork. In time though, strapwork becomes a gateway to calming the nervous system and improving the ever important grip strength of our hands.

HERE is an article that details grip strength as an indicator of health, wellbeing and longevity.

The more we can increase our understanding of why we do what we do, we can stop groaning and begin to embrace the benefits of the work!

On June 28th, join me for the Foot and Hand Therapeutics Workshop, From the Ground Up. We'll begin with the feet and move on to the hands to create space and mobility from the ground up. This remarkable practice is a deep dive into the extremities to ease pain and tension not only in the feet and hands but throughout the body. No experience necessary, open to all. Register HERE.
