The Tune-Up We Keep Forgetting

I’m back from my Summer travels and happily getting back into the regular rhythm of life. It feels great to be home, but my trip actually taught me a massive lesson about my body.

While I was away, I wound up missing six days of practice. In the 8+ years that I’ve been practicing Kaiut Yoga, that is the absolute longest I have ever been away from the mat!

Honestly? My body noticed.

Yoga is Maintenance, Not Just a Quick Fix

A lot of people expect yoga to just fix things. And don't get me wrong, it definitely does heal us. But the real magic is in the daily maintenance.

Here is exactly how my six days off went down:

  • by Day 3 off the mat: My knees and hips started to ache.

  • by Day 5 off the mat: I felt way stiffer than my usual self.

  • and after Day 2 back at practice: Everything felt freer and right back to normal!

The Premium Car vs. The Body

It made me laugh thinking about how we treat our cars versus our bodies.

Think about it. We eagerly schedule regular oil changes, rotate our tires, get tune-ups, and check the battery. We know the car will literal die if we don't.

Yet, we expect our bodies to carry on indefinitely with almost zero maintenance. We throw some food at it—and let's be real, not always the most nutritious fuel—and just expect it to run perfectly forever. Or until we can blame it on aging and just give up!

The Takeaway

Your body is the only body you get to live in. It needs consistent tuning, fluid checks, and alignment just like a car. Don’t wait for a total breakdown to give it some love.

Join me on the mat and we'll maintain together!
