“We meet ourselves time and again in a thousand disguises on the path of life.”
~ C.G. Jung
I came across this quote recently. It makes me think about how much we change and evolve over our lifetimes… always adapting and adjusting to new experiences and challenges.
In our yoga practice, each day we are invited to meet the body with new eyes. As in life, we are always adapting and adjusting to the practice and evolving everyday. We start fresh each time we come to the mat... leaving assumptions and expectations behind and allowing the practice to reveal our current reality.
We move into each aspect of the practice slowly and mindfully. No rush, just conscious and aware movements. By working in this way, we connect body and brain, and illuminate for the brain just what is needed for us to be mobile and free in our bodies.
At the same time, we become aware of our unconscious habits. Once we are aware of these habits, we can move intentionally, retooling the body to create better ways to move and bring freedom to body and mind.
I think this is one of the things that I love best about this functional yoga practice. Instead of striving for a particular “look”, we are always developing our ability to feel and sense the body. By allowing the mind to be at peace as we work, the body is able to find ease and relief. This approach allows the nervous system to downshift which in turn allows to body to heal.
Pretty cool!
